• Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand
  A photograph of Franz Ferdinand and his family, taken in 1913. Text on the card reads, "Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand von Oesterrich d'Estemite Familie.
• Budapest. Országház.--Parlament.
  This card was mailed from Hungary on June 29. The text on the reverse reads: "We are in this building now. Black flags flying every-where on account of the killing of the Arch Duke Ferdinand yesterday. We go back to Wien this afternoon."
• Flowers of France
  This card was delivered from Paris just a month after the Armistice on December 12, 1918. The card has an embroidered bouquet with real plant leaves: "Flowers of France, Gathered for you"
• Rounding Them Up
  The thirteen flags of the Allies surround the four flags--Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and Turkey--of the Central Powers.
• Lord Kitchener
  Herbert Lord Kitchener was a hero of the Great War; he was drowned when the ship HMS Hampshire carrying him on a mission to Russia hit a German mine and sank. His body was never recovered. Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote the tribute to him that is printed on this card. His face is of course familiar to us from the famous recruiting poster "Your Country Needs You."
