Rebuke

Rebuke

As one who was rebuked I stood

In silence by the sea ;

The stars were pale and faint--a brood

Of angel eyes to me :

The dim red flush of evening lay

Like rose leaves in the west,

And fishing boats slept in the bay

Like weary birds at rest.

As one who was rebuked I stood

In wonder by the sea ;

And in the beauty, lo ! I could

Attain Serenity!
